In Washington, DC and surrounding communities (a 75-mile radius), the Jefferson Awards Foundation (Please see www.jeffersonawards.org) is seeking a graduate student to be a paid Intern to facilitate the Jefferson Awards Lead360 Challenge. This is a marketing, sales, outreach and media (traditional media and social media) position. We are seeking up to 1,000 hours of work spread either year-round, or during the academic year.
The Lead360 Challenge seeks to recognize existing youth service projects and then engage, activate and inspire new youth service projects for youth in the Washington, DC Area - 25 years and under – i.e., elementary school through college.
In our fourth year nationally, the academic year 2013-2014, the Lead360 Challenge engaged more than 5,000 student projects involving more than 1.5 million students. The goal is to introduce the program into the DC Area and make Washington the Jefferson Awards fifteenth Leadership Community.
Job Description
The job is a marketing, sales, outreach and media (traditional media and social media) position involving up to 1,000 hours per year. The basic goal is to identify and register every existing and then every new youth service project. Measure the number of projects, the number of students involved, the number of lives impacted and the $dollar community benefit (Based on the Independent Sector). The intern needs a car and the ability to travel a 75-mile radius.
The Intern will work under the management of Pam Davis at McDermott, Will and Emery to convene and mobilize the DC Area organizations that link to youth service. These will include all major non-profits, religious organizations, schools and colleges as well as leading businesses – large and small.
One task is to engage media partners to work with the Jefferson Awards to create a sustained media and online marketing campaign.
Another task is to involve the DC Area local elected officials to help shine a positive spotlight in the media on youth service (Involve mayors and all local community newspapers, radio and television and online).
To create excitement and build participation, an additional task will be to identify and create significant DC Area-based prizes. This should include unique experiences with the Washington professional sports teams, tickets for regional concerts, meetings with celebrities, gift certificates, and internships and job shadowing in the business community.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: advertising, marketing, and recruiting participating youth in schools, clubs, non-profits, religious organizations and businesses. Responsibilities will include event planning, efficient communication with local participants, and working with the Jefferson Awards Foundation National Office to facilitate the activation phase of LEAD360 in Washington.

• Strong basic working knowledge of in-office technologies (printer, copier, fax, etc)
• Responsive to manager feedback, ability to take direction and execute work independently with minimal oversight
• Interest in nonprofit work and philanthropy
