This position requires a creative, flexible writer who can analyze the needs of multiple university clients and work as part of the creative team to use strategy to determine the concept, brand and direction of a wide range of print and digital projects. The position not only writes copy but also edits it for grammar, style, tone, organization, and appropriate language, depending on the type of communication. The incumbent is an effective storyteller who can write and edit that story to fit a wide variety of media. Although this position primarily collaborates with University Communications and Marketing (UCM) account managers and designers, it also leads and consults on editorial initiatives specifically for University Publications clients.
• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or related field.
• Minimum five years of professional writing and editing experience, preferably for an advertising or public relations agency, corporation, college or university, newspaper or magazine, or nonprofit organization.

• Ability to concept, develop, and write creative, compelling, and accurate content in a variety of styles for diverse audiences.
• Proven communication and collaboration skills with internal teams and clients.
• Ability to work independently and exercise professional judgment.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and workflow in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
The candidate must juggle competing priorities, demonstrate strong analytic and creative skills, pay attention to detail, adhere to schedules and work well independently and in collaborative teams. The position requires considerable flexibility, as back-up for numerous positions is sometimes required, and the skills in demand for any particular project can vary widely. Research and interviewing skills are sometimes needed.
